For a trainer it´s a challenge to create the right climate for participants to learn and then to transfer the knowledge to their job. Therefore, I always have in mind the following adult learning principles:

  1. Focus on real problems and situations
  2. Emphasize how the learning can be applied
  3. Relate the learning to the participants’ goals
  4. Allow debate and the challenge of ideas
  5. Listen to and respect the opinions of participants
  6. Encourage participants to help each other
  7. Treat them as adults

I hope this serves as a reminder, especially if you are also devoted to training.

Why horse-assisted leadership training?

In the last days we have organized two successful sessions of Leadership with Horses. Why have we been delivering horse-assisted leadership training for more than 5 years?

Because:

  • horses help you get out of your comfort zone, which is where you can really learn something new,
  • they demonstrate the effect of your behaviour and this way you can measure the possible difference between intention and impact,
  • they force you to take responsibility (you never blame the horses, if something goes wrong)
  • they magnify how you manifest yourself in real life and this increases your self-knowledge,
  • you face unique challenges and you build confidence whilst overcoming them,
  • you receive immediate and unfiltered feedback that accelerates learning,
  • you see growth and change in a single day and keep a lasting impression,
  • it is an experiential training where you enjoy learning through action.

Thank you very much to all participants for your ideas, contributions, laughter, joy and sincere feelings, as these have been key to make the sessions so special.
